I recently conducted a survey amongst my mailing list subscribers and one of the main frustrations was not knowing how to blend colors when using coloring pencils. I’ve scoured the internet looking for the best way to help you overcome this problem so you can enjoy coloring and make a few masterpieces while at it. Although there are several tutorials few were clear concise and unbiased.
This video Kirsty Partridge shows six different blending techniques she uses when coloring with pencils. She covers using Prismacolor Colorless Blender, Derwent Blender and Burnisher, a white pencil, paint thinner applied with a brush and paint thinner applied with a cotton swab. Even though she clearly prefers using the paint thinner with a cotton swab, she actually took the time to show how the other techniques look and it gives us a clear idea of what to expect from each option.
I hope this video helps with your blending woes so you can enjoy the time you spend coloring the free adult coloring pages I’ve been sending your way. I look forward to your comments and questions! Be sure to leave your comments and questions below, and if you’ve enjoyed this video, please take a moment to share it on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and your PTA meetings. I’m not a pro as Kirsty, but here’s my attempt at blending with coloring pencils. I used the Prismacolor Colorless Blender. Tell me in the comments how I did.
